Transportation

Here are some suggestions about transportation to and within Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.

Airport and Transfers

To get to Costa Rica, we suggest flying to San José’s Juan Santa María (SJO) International Airport. From there, we can arrange a 2.5 hour shuttle ride to Villa Punto de Vista in Manuel Antonio. However, this will require collaborating with us on travel and arrival times (we will reach out to guests who RSVP “yes” in March 2025 to organize group transfers and facilitate cost-sharing).

Alternatively, guests can arrange their own van ride, take a bus, or even take another short plane ride to Quepos La Managua Airport (XQP) on Sansa Air (which is only 20 minutes from the Villa).

Taxis

There are plenty of taxis on hand in Costa Rica for visitors without a car. Official red taxis have a bright yellow sign on the side and are always equipped with a meter, but that doesn’t mean they’ll always use it. Sometimes, you can choose to pay taxi drivers in either CRC or USD. Make sure you negotiate taxi fare before you get in to ensure you get the best deal.

Uber

Ubers can be unreliable in Manuel Antonio since it is a small and remote town. It may be worth checking, but if you don’t see any available move on to plan B.

Walking

Walking to the venue, to the beach, or some local restaurants is very doable since everything is within a one to two mile radius. However, before you set off on an adventure, please consider that the terrain can be hilly and the roads may not have sidewalks in some places.

Bus

There is a bus route between Manuel Antonio and Quepos, the closest town. It travels along the main road (National Route 618) and has stops about every 15 minutes. The fare stays the same no matter the time but ensure you have enough cash because they do not take credit cards. Ideally, carry small denomination bills less than 5,000 CRC for the bus.

Leaving Costa Rica

Because anything can happen here, it is important to arrive at the airport about 2.5 hours before your departure time.

If you use common sense, are courteous, and are prepared, it will make your vacation only that much more enjoyable and relaxing.  Have a safe flight and we’ll see you soon!
